DE MOMO, Pascal Dusapin

2018 new creation of United Instruments of Lucilin, « De Momo » is a Luxembourgish adaptation of children project « Momo » (2002) by composer Pascal Dusapin and author Leigh Sauerwein, and it tells the story of a young boy named Momo, who lives in a circus with his grandpa, the famous clown Huberto.

For this Luxembourgish version, Lucilin and the other coproducers of the project (CAPe, Kulturhaus Niederanven, Théâtre Municipal d’Esch/Alzette) entrusted Nico Helminger with the translation of the original text and Lionel Ménard with the staging. On stage, five musicians from Lucilin, one actor (Jules Werner for the creation) and Bettina the cook (Maria Del Pilar Blanco Iglesias) invite the Luxembourgish audience to a musical journey inside the circus world, as seen through the eyes of a young child Momo.

Jules Werner a ses petites habitudes. Tous les vendredis midi, il se dirige avec deux ou trois propositions de scenarios sous le bras vers son restaurant sarde préfèré, chez Bettina.
Attablé sous une nature morte, il partage à voix haute la lecture d’une histoire qu’il interprétera plus tard au théatre ou au cinéma. Quelques fois deux pages suffisent pour le convaincre que ce n’est pas intéressant, il répondra alors poliment non à son auteur. Aujourd’hui l’histoire au contraire le passionne. Sa table préférée devient alors le terrain de jeu, le poivrier un petit garçon, la carafe d’eau un éléphant, le spaghetti carbonara une corde lisse. Même la vieille peinture encadrée au dessus de lui devient la projection de cette piste aux étoiles. Jules nous raconte l’histoire de Momo, un enfant du cirque. Les clients habitués sont captivés, en échange du plat du jour, un petit orchestre familial, “les Lucilins”, accompagne le conteur. C’est ainsi que tous les vendredis midi chez Bettina, c’est presque complet. Mais rentrez donc il y a encore une table de libre, rien que pour vous..
