Luxembourg Composition Academy 2024: Open call for composers
Apply now! From 16 to 22 November 2024, the Luxembourg Composition Academy offers young composers the opportunity to spend one week working in an inspiring and creative environment in the heart of Luxembourg. Faculty: Milica Djordjević & James Dillon.
Promoting emerging talent in the field of contemporary musical composition,8 composers are selected every year !
Undergraduate and (post)graduate composers are invited to apply for the Luxembourg Composition Academy, held from November 16 to 22, 2024 in Luxembourg with the faculty consisting of composers Milica Djordjević and James Dillon as well as the Luxembourgish ensemble United Instruments of Lucilin.
Premiere your new piece at the rainy days Festival
The program consists of lectures, one-to-one lessons with Milica Djordjević and James Dillon and workshops with the musicians of United Instruments of Lucilin. All selected composers are invited to write a new piece for United Instruments of Lucilin. These new compositions will be premiered in the Academy’s final concert on November 22, 2024 at Philharmonie Luxembourg as part of the rainy days festival, their international festival for contemporary music.
Faculty: Milica Djordjević & James Dillon
Milica Dordjević lets music be pure energy, and it is powerful. Passionate. Dynamic. Physical. Versatile, rich, sometimes fragile, often explosively charged. Science, literature and art play an important role in her work. Her collaborations include the Berlin Philharmonic and Arditti Quartet. She has received prestigious awards such as the Claudio Abbado Composition Prize and the Ernst von Siemens Composers’ Prize.
James Dillon is among Europe’s most celebrated composers, with a vast repertoire from solo to chamber, orchestral and opera works. The recipient of numerous awards, including the 1982 Darmstadt Kranichsteiner Musikpreis, an unprecedented five Royal Philharmonic Society awards, the UK’s top music accolade; in 2003 he was honored with a Hon DLitt, from the University of Huddersfield, UK, his work is published by Peters Edition, London.

How to apply ?
The academy will be taught in English.
The participation fee is 500€ and includes accommodation. Attendance to the rainy days festival (November 20 to 24) can be organized as well.
