Queen of the Air

Monodrama on Aviator Amelia Earhart, followed by a Round Table Discussion

In Queen of the Air, composer Albena Petrovic, the ensemble United Instruments of Lucilin, and mezzo-soprano Luisa Mauro — herself a descendant of a family of aviators — immerse us in the fascinating world of Amelia Earhart. Presented at the Théâtre des Capucins on the occasion of International Women’s Day, this monodrama pays tribute to an exceptional, remarkable, and inspiring figure.

As an aviator who made history by becoming the first woman to cross the Atlantic by plane, Amelia Earhart’s journey was tragically cut short in 1937 when her aircraft disappeared during a transatlantic flight, leaving behind an unresolved mystery and forever inscribing her name in history. More than just an aviator, Amelia symbolizes the desire to transcend human limitations and reach unattainable heights, much like Icarus from Greek mythology. Like him, she flew toward the sun, and in the process of burning herself in this quest, she left an indelible mark on collective memory.
