Lucilin in The City #18 – Sounding Stones

Sounding Stones
Concert in collaboration with the Musée national d'histoire naturelle

Stones hold many secrets: they bear witness to the passage of time, preserve primordial energy and shape ancestral forms and rituals. The Sounding Stones program, specially conceived by the musicians of the United Instruments of Lucilin ensemble to accompany the On the Rocks exhibition, offers a musical exploration of these mysterious and timeless aspects of stone.

The works presented focus on stone not only as a building material, but also as a source of artistic inspiration.

For Canto Llano, Eduardo Marturet was inspired by the vast landscapes of the Latin American highlands and the musical traditions of the Andes. The piece is characterized by repetitive motifs and modern harmonies that create a meditative atmosphere. On the other side of the world, John Cage drew his inspiration for Ryoanji from the Zen stone garden of Kyoto’s Ryoanji temple. A reflection on silence and chance, this piece leaves plenty of room for interpretation by percussion instruments and flute. Closer to the material, Camille Kerger integrates a stone instrument into his composition, echoing ancient rituals and their link with the natural elements. Finally, Dante Boon, a member of the Wandelweiser collective, will present a new meditative work composed for this concert, incorporating a stone harp on display at the exhibition.
